When designing email content in Enudge using our drag and drop editor, you can now add an image in behind your content blocks, giving you more design flexibility.

You can apply your background image to an individual row of content, or to your entire email.

A word of caution: not all email clients support background images. The following have limited support:

  • Microsoft Outlook (Windows 2007-2019)

  • Windows 10 Mail

  • Older Android Native mail apps

Because the older email clients don't provide support, it's important to include a solid colour background as a fallback.

Steps to add a background image - behind a row

  1. Select a row.

  2. In the right hand panel, in the Row Background section, enable the 'Row background image' option.

  3. Click on the 'Choose image' button and select or upload & insert your background image. Alternatively, you can paste in a URL pointing to your hosted image, and the usual image affects are also available for your background.

  4. Choose to apply your image either to the row or the content area.

  5. Other options:

    1. Fit to Background - your image will fill the entire available space.

    2. Repeat - not available in combination with 'Fit to Background'. Repeat causes an image that is smaller than the available space to be repeated in order to fill it. This is mostly used for repeating patterns.

    3. Centre - can be combined with the 'Repeat' option. Your image will be centred in the available area.

  6. Make sure that you set a 'Content area background colour' that works with your design, as that will be shown for the situation where the email client doesn't support background images.

Steps to add a background image - behind your whole email

  1. Click on the Settings tab in the right hand panel.

  2. Enable the 'Background Image' option.

  3. Click on the 'Choose image' button and select or upload & insert your background image. Alternatively, you can paste in a URL pointing to your hosted image, and the usual image affects are also available for your background.

  4. Other options:

    1. Fit to Background - your image will fill the entire background area of your email. However if you have a background colour behind an individual row will appear on top of the image.

    2. Repeat - not available in combination with 'Fit to Background'. Repeat causes an image that is smaller than the available space to be repeated in order to fill it. This is mostly used for repeating patterns.

    3. Centre - not available in combination with 'Fit to Background'. Your image will be centred in the available area.

As usual, we recommend that you test your campaign design, including on mobile, to ensure you achieve the desired results.
